What Changes Can I Make to My Medicare Plan?

During the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, there are a variety of changes you can make to your coverage depending on your current plan.

If you have Original Medicare (Parts A & B), you can:

  • Join a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) with or without drug coverage
  • Join a stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D)

If you have Original Medicare (Part A and/or Part B) and a stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D), you can:

  • Join a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) with or without drug coverage you can
  • Switch to another Medicare prescription drug plan
  • Drop your prescription drug coverage 

If  you have a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) with built-in drug coverage, you can:

  • Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan
  • Get rid of your Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare
  • Join a stand-alone  prescription drug plan (must switch to Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan without drug coverage)
  • Get rid of your prescription drug coverage 

For those with a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) and a stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D), you can:

  • Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan
  • Switch to another Medicare prescription drug plan
  • Get rid of your Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare
  • Get rid of your prescription drug coverage
